Saying that before departing for a better world he would like to do two things: write a quartet and remount Proserpine, describing the difficulty of finding a soprano for the role--brilliant and dramatic like Valentine [in Meyerbeer's Huguenots], Léonora ([in Verdi's] Trovatore), Catherine ([in Meyerbeer's] Étoile du nord), mentioning Mlle Wynn, Gerville Réache, Viardot, Mme de Ruovina, mentioning Carré's travesty of Saint-Saëns's Javotte, saying one must come to Paris to see this directorial despotism, mentioning Phryné, Angiola , Mlle Chasles, Santori, Kerff , and other persons, etc.
